The Heart of Kona

Kailua Bay

All LevelsDepth: 15–40 ft

Kailua Bay sits right in the center of Kona town — one of the most accessible and rewarding shore dives on the Big Island. Volcanic lava formations create dramatic underwater terrain, and the resident sea turtle population makes nearly every dive a memorable encounter. Vibrant reef fish, octopus, and the occasional spinner dolphin round out the experience.

A daytime dive with stunning visibility and a reef teeming with life. Manta sightings are common, and Travis knows exactly where and how to find them.

A Local's Secret

Mile Marker Four

All LevelsDepth: 20–60 ft

Named for its location on the coastal highway, Mile Marker Four is the kind of dive site that doesn't show up in tourist brochures. Dramatic lava tubes, swim-throughs, and arches create an underwater landscape that feels like another world. Marine life is abundant and undisturbed — this is what the Kona Coast looks like away from the crowds.

Kayak & Dive

Kealakekua Bay

Beginner–AdvancedDepth: 20–70 ft

The most adventurous dive on the list — and arguably the most spectacular. You kayak out to one of Hawaii's most pristine marine sanctuaries, then descend into crystal-clear water with visibility that can exceed 100 feet. The bay is a State Marine Life Conservation District, meaning the reef and its inhabitants are fully protected and thriving. Captain Cook Monument marks the entry point.
